Company Background
Journal-isms™, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, was created by Richard Prince, a veteran journalist and

Association of Black Journalists, whose mission includes advocating for balanced coverage of
the Black community and society at large.

In 2002, “Journal-isms” went online on the website of the Robert C. Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, which was founded in 1977 and is “dedicated to helping the news media accurately portray all segments of society, particularly those often overlooked, such as communities of color.” The column increased its frequency from monthly to three times a week, and its focus expanded from Black journalists to diversity issues in general, writing about all groups, including Hispanic, Asian American and Native American.
