Happy birthday, April Ryan!

Happy birthday, April Ryan!

[Facebook has twice removed this greeting, saying,

[“It looks like you tried to gather sensitive information from others.

[“This goes against our Community Standards on cybersecurity.”

[or simply, it violates community standards.]

April is the Washington bureau chief and senior White House correspondent for The Grio, and the longest-serving Black woman in the White House press corps.

Her birthday gives me an opportunity to announce that she will be part of the next Journal-isms Roundtable, where on Sept. 22 we will hear from reporters who have covered Kamala Harris.

News events notwithstanding, April will join Errin Haines of the 19th News, who has been covering Harris since she ran for president in 2020; Nii-Quartelai Quartey, Ed.D., author of “Kamala, The Motherland and Me” and host at KBLA talk radio, Los Angeles; and White House correspondent Darlene Superville of the Associated Press.

April has her particular vantage point, as she has been attacked by former President Donald Trump and conservative media for asking questions that pertain to African Americans, which has endeared her to legions of admirers.

April’s wedding to James William Ewing in October warranted a spread in People magazine < https://bit.ly/3MA85cC >, and gives us another reason to wish her well!
